About the event
Step into the world of wild wonders! This event invites students in grades K-3 to explore the magic of our local trails through the eyes of an herbalist. Join environmental educator Chloe Bassuk on a gentle 1/2-mile hike to identify local plants. From edible and healing properties in blackberry and wild fennel to those that are dangerous, like poison oak and hemlock, kids will learn to safely spot and gather backyard wonders and edible treasures. The group will have one basket for foraging and all the children will have a scavenger hunt worksheet to guide them to find and identify plants. Following the walk, everyone will blend their own teas and garnish their own scones with ingredients they learned about on their walk.
