About the event
Dungeness crab is a deliciousl, iconic favorite in the San Francisco Bay area. This event will be a traditional crab feed- there will be lots of Dungeness crab with butter, salad from local farmers, and excellent sourdough bread. And also, we will have an expert on hand to show you how she catches Dungeness crab with a fishing pole and with a hoop net. You'll also learn about the local ecology of whales and crab and what's being done to protect whales from becoming entangled with crab lines.
You'll learn how to check for the right tides, find the places that are both legal to crab, and where you are likely to get them, which bait to use , how to tell whether they are female or male - the females get thrown back in, and how to measure them to make sure it's legal to keep them.
