Bodega Bay, Bodega Bay, CA, USA
About the event
Dungeness crab is a delicious, iconic favorite in the San Francisco Bay area. It loves the eelgrass meadow under Bodega Bay. In this workshop you'll learn how to check for the right tides, find the places that are both legal to crab, and where you are likely to get them, which bait to use. You'll learn casting and reeling in, and how to tell whether a crab is female or male - the females get thrown back in. You'll also learn how to measure them to make sure they are of legal size.
Our workshop leader, Annie, is a gold medal winning fisherwoman. She'll teach you how she catches Dungeness crab with a fishing pole and with a hoop net. You'll also learn about the local ecology of whales and crab and what's being done to protect whales from becoming entangled with crab lines.
You'll get hands on experience cleaning…
