About the event
Join us for a guided mushroom foraging walk focused on the edible mushrooms of Santa Cruz. This region’s redwood forests, tanoak groves, and coastal mixed evergreen woodlands create some of the richest fungal habitat in California, making it an ideal place to learn how to read the landscape to find prized mushrooms.
knowing where something grows is just as important as knowing what it looks like.
You’ll learn how to confidently identify seasonal edible species in the field, understand the trees and soils they grow with, and build identification skills you can use on your own.
Along the way, we’ll also point out other seasonal wild foods that share these forests, offering context for the broader ecosystem that supports both plants and fungi.
