About the event
Join us for a guided mushroom foraging walk focused on the edible mushrooms of Santa Cruz. This region’s redwood forests, tanoak groves, and coastal mixed evergreen woodlands create some of the richest fungal habitat in California, making it an ideal place to learn how to read the landscape to find prized mushrooms. Knowing where something grows is just as important as knowing what it looks like.
California parks have strict regulations on harvesting mushrooms that make no logical sense. We don't want to take people out for an activity where they could be ticketed, so you will NOT be harvesting mushrooms on this walk - but rather you’ll learn how to confidently identify seasonal edible species in the field, understand the trees and soils they grow with, and build identification skills you can use on your own.
