San Francisco, Presidio of San Francisco, San Francisco, CA, USA
About the event
Let's walk the Presidio and talk mushrooms. Where to find them, why we can't legally pick them there, and other fungi centric topics. Maria will lead the walk and talk. We'll then have a mushroom drawing class with professional illustrator Clark Tate and a mushroom centric grazing board. Author Flannery O'Connor used to say that drawing helped her writing, "“Anything that helps you to see. Anything that makes you look.” The same can be true when learning to identify mushrooms. Drawing them will make you see them with granular precision so that you know the process of ID'ing mushrooms in the wild, from spores or gills to stem and cap.
Clark has illustrated books and posters in a myriad of styles along with creating artwork for Fortune 500 companies, capturing everything from CEO portraits to storyboards for new tech and user experience. “Drawing is the essence, and it’s the best way to develop a deep visual understanding…” and that is what Clark would like to help you use to learning mushrooms. You can see more of Clark’s work on his site, clarkbtate.com
