About the event

We - all living creatures on earth - are interconnected. The commercial fishing season for California salmon has been closed for the past two years. This is in large part due to habitat degradation. 97% of salmon in California have disappeared. 97% of our redwoods have been logged. This experience draws inspiration from wild salmon’s remarkable life cycle and their symbiotic relationship with the mighty redwood, as well as the tradition of  “Circumambulation of Mt. Tam". The original circumambulation on Mt. Tam was in 1965, when the Beat poets Gary Snyder, Allen Ginsberg, and Philip Whalen drew on a fusion of spiritual traditions to walk clockwise around the mountain, inspired by Tibetan and Indian practices of walking clockwise–“the way of the sun”–around a venerated object. They stopped at stations along the way for meditation and chanting.
