Bodega Bay, Bodega Bay, CA, USA

About the event

There's been an explosion of purple sea urchin along the California Coast. These creatures are not invasive, but rather signify an ecosystem out of balance. In this workshop you'll learn about how they threaten the bull kelp that has been disappearing along our coast due to a perfect storm of environmental stressors that are related to climate change. We'll also talk about how the vital role that bull kelps plays in the ecosystem.

For this workshop, you'll need a one day or seasonal fishing license if you want to collect sea urchin and mussels.

If not, you are welcome to watch us collect and help us clean them and join in prepping and eating the uni. Please bring a cooler to take sea urchin, mussels and seaweed home with you.
