About the event
Join us for a salty, immersive morning along the tidepools of Santa Cruz as we explore the rich world of coastal seaweed. Timed with the low tide, this hands-on adventure is part science, part sustainable food and part shoreline magic.
We’ll begin with a guided walk through the intertidal zone, learning how to identify and respectfully harvest local seaweeds like sea lettuce, rockweed, and kombu. You’ll learn where different species grow, how they support coastal ecosystems, and how to distinguish them.
We’ll dive into ethical harvesting practices and cover everything from how to clean and dry your seaweed to ways you can incorporate it into your kitchen.
After foraging, we’ll gather on the sand to enjoy a seaweed-centric beach brunch, with wild offerings prepared to nourish and inspire.
Come with curiosity and leave with seaweed in your hands, salt in your hair, and stories in your heart
